New pre-declaration procedure before entering Vietnam

From 1 July 2026, Vietnam is progressively rolling out its Pre-arrival Information (PAI) system, allowing international travelers to submit their personal information before arriving in the country.

Available through the official platform of the Vietnam Immigration Department, this procedure aims to streamline entry formalities, reduce waiting times at passport control, and improve the arrival experience for travelers.

Who is concerned?

The pre-arrival declaration applies to:

• foreign nationals;
• overseas Vietnamese entering Vietnam with a valid visa.

Exemptions

This procedure does not apply to:

• Vietnamese citizens traveling with a Vietnamese passport;
• transit passengers who do not pass through immigration control.

Which airports require the declaration?

In 2026, the online pre-arrival declaration is mandatory for eligible travelers arriving at the following international airports:

• ✈️ Tan Son Nhat International Airport (SGN) – Ho Chi Minh City: Effective from 15 April 2026.
• ✈️ Phu Quoc International Airport (PQC): Effective from 1 June 2026.
• ✈️ Noi Bai International Airport (HAN) – Hanoi: Effective from 8 June 2026.

Vietnamese authorities may gradually extend this procedure to other international airports across the country.

When should you complete the declaration?

The declaration can be completed within three days before your arrival in Vietnam.

The authorities recommend completing it before departure to facilitate immigration procedures and reduce waiting times at the airport.

How do you complete the declaration?

The procedure is free of charge and only takes a few minutes on the official portal:
https://prearrival.immigration.gov.vn/

Once your information has been submitted, a QR code will be generated. We recommend saving it on your mobile phone and, if possible, printing a paper copy before your trip.

What information should you prepare?

Before starting the declaration, make sure you have the following:

• your passport;
• your flight information;
• your visa or proof of visa exemption, if applicable;
• the address of your first accommodation in Vietnam;
• a valid email address to receive information related to your declaration.

Upon arrival in Vietnam

At immigration control, present:

• your passport;
• your visa or entry document, if required;
• your QR code, either on your mobile device or printed on paper.

If you have not completed the declaration before departure, you may also complete it upon arrival by scanning the QR code available in the immigration area. However, this may result in a longer waiting time.

Good to know

• The pre-arrival declaration does not replace a visa. If your nationality requires a visa or an e-Visa to enter Vietnam, you must still complete that procedure separately.
• The information you provide is used solely for border control purposes and is handled confidentially by the Vietnamese authorities.
