Located in the far south of Laos, near the Cambodian border, Si Phan Don is a vast archipelago scattered across the Mekong River. During the dry season, as the water level recedes, hundreds of small islands emerge between the river’s many channels.
Some of the islands, including Don Khong, Don Det and Don Khon, are home to small villages where daily life remains closely connected to the river. Here, boats often replace roads, and life unfolds at the gentle rhythm of the Mekong and the changing seasons.

At the heart of the city stands Pha That Luang, the magnificent golden stupa and the spiritual symbol of Laos. Surrounding this iconic monument, temples and monasteries reflect the central role of Buddhism in everyday Lao life.

The 4,000 Islands, known as Si Phan Don in Lao, are located in southern Laos, near the Cambodian border. In this region, the Mekong River widens and splits into numerous channels, forming a vast archipelago of small islands.
During the dry season, as the river level falls, hundreds of islands emerge across the Mekong, creating a unique river landscape found nowhere else in Laos.
